Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand state of India is full of natural resources and scenery. The climate of the city remains pleasant all year long as it is situated in the foot hills of Himalayas in the doon valley. If you are planning to visit Dehradun this summers and you are a nature lover then there are 5 places that you must visit during your trip.
Robbers Cave (Gucchu Paani)
Robbers cave got its name as it is believed that robbers used to live hide/live here in the past. The place is also called Gucchu Pani or Gupchup Pani as it has a waterfall of which the source is unknown. Once you enter from the man made gate for the cave you will see a passage to reach the cave you can get facilities like fast food, lockers, flip flop sellers on this passage reaching the cave you will notice that the cave is open from above as you go further inside the water level will keep on increasing and the surface below is also uneven. So, this would give you a complete natural surrounding experience. In the end you will see a 10 meter long water fall which looks quite scary but this is what adventure is all about. Its better to take personal vehicle or taxi to reach Robbers cave as public transport is not available to reach the place. It is located 8-10 Kms away from the Dehradun city.
Sahastradhara
Another popular destination for nature lovers in Dehradun is Sahastradhara. It is also known for the sulphur springs and their medical benefits, as water present here drips from limestone stalactites. Sahastradhara means 'thousand fold springs'. This place is surrounded by beautiful caves, waterfalls, an ancient temple of lord Shiva, a rope way to reach the hill top and a man made waterpark with slides and rides. Public transport is also available to reach the place, It is located 10-12 Kms from Dehradun city.
Lacchiwala (Nature Park)
If you want to spend some peaceful time away from the noisy city life then Lacchiwala (also known as Nature Park) near Dehradun can be a perfect place for you. The place is situated on the Haridwar-Rishikesh road and is 17 kms from Dehradun. This place is surrounded by dense forest and you can enjoy trekking, bird viewing, swimming in the man made pools with natural water or you can simply relax and admire the natural beauty of the place, feel the calmness and peace of the natural surroundings. You can reach here by bus or taxi, forest guest house are also available here. Another attraction for this place is the Laxman sidhh Temple, a famous temple of Laxman.
Rajaji National Park
If you were not lucky enough to spot the animals you wanted to see at Rajaji National Park then you need not to be disappointed as you can find some of them at Malsi Deer Park, located around 10 Kms away from Dehradun City on Mussoorie Road, this place is for the wild life lovers.You can find a wide range of animals here like leopard, peacocks and ofcourse large number of deers. The park remains close on Mondays and remains open from Tuesday to Sunday. Timings for visiting the park on open days are 7am to 6pm. This place also has slides and swings for kids so that people from every age group could enjoy in the park. This place is good for spending quality time with family.
